Flower shop owner Nancy Krause had been “intrigued by” the idea of opening a store in Hyde Park since living in the neighborhood several years ago, but she found no suitable space available at the time. The recent wave of development around 53rd Street renewed her interest.
After reading about the opening of several new restaurants, Krause returned for a visit and eventually secured one of the new spaces for rent in Harper Court. On Oct. 15 Nancy Krause Floral Design became the latest addition to the growing cluster of retailers at Harper Court.
The store offers various services, including hand-tied bouquets for walk-in customers, elaborate floral arrangements for weddings and other events, and weekly accounts with homes and businesses. Krause hopes to establish regular accounts with Hyde Park buildings, and there has already been some interest from a condominium in the neighborhood.
Krause is hopeful about the store’s future in the area. “I love Hyde Park,” said Krause. “I don’t know what it is, but I feel very strongly that I have a connection with it, and I’ve got to be here.”
The Hyde Park location is the second for Nancy Krause, and the store will also continue to operate at its Lincoln Park location at 1101 West Webster Street.
Over the past three and half years in Lincoln Park, Nancy Krause has established a reputation for its distinctive sense of style and attention to detail in color and fragrance. Besides floral arrangements, it offers an array of vintage vases and unusual antiques for garden displays. The store is also known for its elegant interior and its warm and welcoming ambience, which it has carefully recreated in Hyde Park.
Nancy Krause Floral Design is located at 5229 South Harper Court. It is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
