Promontory to preview menu at KAM Isaiah Israel’s April 26 fundraiser

Award-winning chef Jared Wentworth, will prepare the cuisine for KAM Isaiah Israel Congregation’s spring fundraiser on Saturday, April 26—offering attendees a chance to preview fare from the Promontory, a new restaurant, bar and concert venue set to open soon on 53rd Street.

Wentworth, who will helm the kitchen at the Promontory, has won praise for his work at Longman & Eagle, a popular Chicago restaurant whose owners include the Promontory’s partners Bruce Finkelman and Craig Golden. The Promontory will be located on the southwest corner of 53rd Street at Lake Park, in the same building as Akira and CorePower Yoga.

Along with sampling the Promontory’s fare, those attending the fundraiser will have a chance to purchase tickets to a raffle that features items from several 53rd Street businesses, including A10 restaurant, Harper Theater, Hyatt Place hotel, Kilwin’s, and LA Fitness. Other Hyde Park businesses will also have items in the raffle.

The fundraiser, themed “It’s Spring and All That Jazz,” will pay tribute to the history of jazz in Hyde Park, with a performance by renowned singer and South Side resident Tammy McCann and a talk by WBEZ radio’s Richard Steele. It will be held at 1100 E. Hyde Park Boulevard in Chicago, beginning with cocktails and a raffle at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and jazz at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $150 per person and can be purchased on KAM Isaiah Israel’s website.

LA Fitness Grand Opening December 14

LA Fitness will celebrate its new location in Hyde Park with a grand opening event on Saturday, December 14, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The fitness center opened last month on the third floor of Harper Court on 53rd Street. The entrance for LA Fitness is at 5224 S. Lake Park Avenue.

The opening event will include tours of the facility, sample classes, fitness assessments, and activities for children. See the flyer for more information.

Harper Court earns high marks for sustainability

The U.S. Green Building Council, an organization devoted to sustainable building and design, has bestowed its LEED for Neighborhood Development Gold rating on Harper Court. The distinction makes the 53rd Street development the highest LEED-rated project of its kind in Illinois and among the highest rated in the nation.

Harper Court Partners, the developers of Harper Court, said the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Neighborhood Development designation recognizes the mixed-use project’s location in a densely populated urban neighborhood and proximity to public transportation, among other things.

When it opens in 2013, Harper Court will consist of a 12-story office tower, nearly 45,000 square feet of retail space, an LA Fitness center and a Hyatt Place hotel.

Read more about the LEED-ND Gold rating, including comments from Mayor Rahm Emanuel and University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer, in the developer’s press release.

Harper Court signs new restaurants, reaches construction milestone

When it opens next year, the Harper Court development on 53rd Street will be home to authentic Jamaican restaurant Ja’Grill, a casual gastro-pub eatery called Park Tavern, and a new location for Starbucks.

Developer Harper Court Partners, LLC, today announced that it has signed leases to bring the new retail tenants to the development, bringing the total pre-leasing level to 86.4%. Previously announced tenants include LA Fitness, Chipotle Mexican Grill and a Hyatt Place hotel.

Execution of the new leases, which total 10,000 square feet of space, coincided with the final concrete pour — or “topping off” — of the project’s 12-story office tower, which will have the University of Chicago as its anchor tenant. Retail tenants will be located on the ground floor of the development. The new Harper Court is set to open in summer 2013.
