During the last two years, the University has embarked on a project in partnership with the City of Chicago to help revitalize the 53rd street area. The goal is to make the “Heart of Hyde Park” a vibrant, mixed-use main street that serves the needs of both Hyde Park and surrounding neighborhoods. This blog is designed as a useful source of information about the latest progress on 53rd street redevelopment. It is maintained by the University of Chicago's Office for Civic Engagement, which is committed to helping keep the university and community informed as our neighborhood changes to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The redevelopment process can be complex and will take time, but we will endeavor to fill this blog with the up to date information that both university and community stakeholders need to stay actively engaged with the revitalization effort.
